Bone density is a measure of the amount of minerals (mostly calcium and phosphorus) contained in a certain volume of bone. In normal conditions bone mineral density increases during childhood and peaks at roughly age 25, which is maintained for about ten years. After age 35, it starts declining in both men and women, especially so in women after menopause.
