Description
Bala Thailam is a medicated oil described in the Ayurvedic classical text book Ashtanga Hrudaya. It is mentioned in the context of ‘Vatavyadhi’ or diseases pertaining to derangement of Vata dosha in the body.
Bala Thailam is a combination of several herbs like Bala (Sida cordifolia), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Rasna (Alpinia galanga) etc. Bala Thailam is commonly used in musculoskeletal disorders and degenerative diseases. It is well known among Ayurvedic practitioners because of its versatility.
The dosage of Bala Thailam depends on the mode of administration.
For massage, quantity sufficient can be used based on the area of application.
Other modes of administration are Abhyanga (massage), Paana (as an internal medicine), Nasya (Nasal drop) and Anuvasana (medicated enema).
Key Ingredients:
BALA (Sida cordifolia)
Sida cordifolia is a renown tonic, astringent, emollient, and aphrodisiac. The drug is a major ingredient of several formulations in Ayurveda. It mitigates vata and pitta while strengthening the ‘Kapha’ element, essentially balances the tridoshas.
GULUCHI (Tinospora cordifolia)
It has a wide range of medicinal properties. Studies show that Tinospora has immuno-modulator, anti-diabetic, anti toxic, anti arthritic, anti microbial and anti oxidant effects.
RASNA (Alpinia Galanga)
The plant has stimulant, carminative, aphrodisiac and anti inflammatory properties. Rhizome is the part used.
IKSHURASA (Saccharum officinarum)
Saccharum officinarum provides around 70% of world’s sugar. It possess diuretic, anti inflammatory, analgesic, antihypercholestremic effect.
AJAKSHEERA (Goats’ Milk)
Goats’ milk is rich in proteins, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, Vitamin A etc.
DEVADARU (Cedrus deodara)
It possess qualities like anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, diuretic, anti-ulcer, neuroleptic activity etc.
ELA (Elettaria cardamom)

MUSTA (Cyperus rotundus)
Phytochemical and pharmacological studies reveal that Musta has antiandrogenic, anti-bacterial, hepato protective, cardio protective, anti oxidant, anti convulsant etc.
MADHUKA (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
This plant has lot of medicinal properties like anti microbial, anti oxidant, anti inflammatory, antitussive, antiviral, antiulcer, hepatoprotective, antiallergic etc.
THULASI (Ocimum sanctum)
This plant possess anticancer, antidiabetic, antifungal, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, antiemetic, antispasmodic, analgesic actions.
TWAK (Cinnamomum verum)
This possess antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anticancer and anti microbial activity.
